In a groundbreaking development, the Gulf SHP was inaugurated on 8/4/22, despite initial skepticism about its potential. Speaking from Kikori, I had the privilege of meeting with Cr Ella Dodobai, whose efforts alongside her husband have facilitated the introduction of coastal products into the highlands market, as previously envisioned by Governor Haiveta.
During our conversation, Cr Ella Dodobai revealed that her ventures yield over K3000 per trip, enabling her to cover her children's educational expenses and rental obligations for the year. While infrastructure enhancement along the highway is ongoing, local commerce continues to thrive, reminiscent of our ancestral trade involving Kina shells.
Moreover, a recent gathering at Kikori SDA church brought to light a remarkable event - over 250 Adventist youths from Gulf and Western Province embarked on a journey to Lae via the Kikori Hagen route. The resounding message from the community remains clear - the road paves the way for progress, urging for further infrastructure development.
